Nina Ogden
About the Artist
Nina Ogden is a Welsh artist based in East London. She received her BA in Painting from Wimbledon College of Arts and is recently completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London, where she was awarded a scholarship. Recent shows include the Hari Art Prize, Subtitle Labs at Omer Tiroche Gallery, and the Koppell Project, London and Transcendence at Gate 45, Dubai.
Ogden’s background in the film industry informs her art practice. Deception, trickery and illusion and such simulated modes of reality open an inquiry as to where the truth of what we see really lies. Through the lens of Jean Baudrillard’s notion of ‘simulation’ and the ‘hyperreal’, she explores the possibilities of truth versus trickery and the physical world converging with the virtual. The process of painting enables Ogden to give attention to and elevate the mundane. She continues to question the transition from photograph to painting. The alchemical, physical quality of paint forces her to make new decisions and therefore, resolve problems. Together with this she uses light, from lens flare to a glistening twinkle, to reveal, highlight, break boundaries and observe. Ogden is driven by a need to understand the human condition, our connection to nature and the consequences of such a relationship for our future existence in this unpredictable, fragile world.
